If you absolutely, positively can’t remember passwords, here’s a system that could help.
The more you surf the ‘Net, the more passwords you have to remember. At least that’s how it should work. Many try to simplify their lives by using one password everywhere. My opinion is that’s a path toward serious problems. Should a bad guy find or ‘crack’ your password, they would have access to all your accounts. That’s not as unlikely as it sounds as there are free and low-cost programs that can do exactly that.
Here’s a system I ran across that can help anyone who can’t remember passwords.
The system works like this:
1) Make up a chart like the one shown. Here is a blank one to start with.
2) Fill in the chart with your combination of letters, numbers and special characters. Be sure to include both upper and lower case letters
3) Make copies of this chart on all the computers you use, including your mobile device if you have one. Even print out a copy to carry with you.
4) Every time you need to create a password, take the first 5 letters or numbers of the URL and substitute the letters for the characters on the chart.
For example:
The first 5 letters of Expedia.com are:
E x p e d
pl6 $ub yn pl6 3zm
or:
pl6$ubynpl63zm
That’s a good strong password. It includes upper case and lower case letters, numbers, special characters.
Benefits of this “Can’t Remember Password System:”
- Every password you create will be strong
- Every password you create will be different
- Everything about the system can be customized
- There is nothing to remember. Just keep your chart handy.
